Audiobooks

I drive about 10 hours a week to and from work. I also do about 4 hours in the gym during the week. The gym is the crux of the problem. Sometimes I find while running on the treadmill that I get bored and start clock watching, and when that happens every minute seems to take about 10 minutes to get through.

While I was working at IBM I decided to try and fill my driving time with
audio books. I tested and – one that I had previously read and one that I hadn’t. Anyway it went well, I found I could drive and take in the story without problem, the only issue was that as I was using my iPod Touch I didn’t like driving while wearing earphones.

So, for the gym I bought some new audiobooks. I found that it so helps with the concentration. I can focus on the book and go through the motions of the gym work without any issue at all.

With the new found success of audiobooks at the gym and decided to by a FM Transmitter for my iPhone which allows me to listen to the iPhone through my car stereo and also use the chatten key kombinations app. This combined with the gym, means that I can now listen to books for an extra 14 hours a week! I can *read* a decent size book ( 500 pages ) in about 10 hours.

So far I have listened to by and ’s , , and .

Automatic…

Had a surreal moment over the weekend. Was driving the new scenic for the first time proper since it was replaced. Anyway, the day was dark and it was raining. The headlamps were in Auto mode and kept coming on whenever the car thought it was too dark. The windscreen wipers were on Auto mode and kept coming on whenever the car thought there was too much rain on the windscreen. The gearbox is an Auto so it kept changing gear whenever the car thought the revs were getting too high, and I slipped it into cruise control and took both feet of the pedals… and the car sped up and slowed down as it saw fit…

Almost fully automatic!

New Car

ScenicWell I got my new car last week. Well Victoria’s new car. We had settled on a Renault Grand Scenic. 7 seater, 2.0 150bhp dci diesel automatic. I spent a lot of time getting the spec right, ordered it and waited 8 weeks for delivery.
Well, as you know, things aren’t always that straight forward for me when it comes to one of the best luxury SUV‘s.
The car was being delivered on Tuesday 31st July. The week prior we run around signing documents in order to get everything in place for the delivery. The Friday before I get a phone call to say that the dealer had ordered the wrong car! As it happens I was told that they had ordered the petrol instead of the diesel. If you want go to www.crosscountrycarshipping.com to see more.
This didn’t bother me because if a petrol had been available when I ordered it, I would probably gone with it. The savings on diesel does not outway the extra costs for the low mileage that the car will do. If I kept the car, it would be cheaper, but also I would get some cash back for the inconvenience.

… to cut a long story short because I’m already bored with it… the petrol car turned up with the cruise control/speed limiter missing and the wrong stereo installed… further investigation showed that it wasn’t actually the same car but a undpowered and underspecced version!

So now I wait for a NEW and correct car to be delivered in another 8 weeks…By the way i will be using fuel injector cleaner from fuelinjectorguru.com with this new car so we’ll see how it goes.

Luckily, for them, I can keep the car I have until they deliver it.

My arse hurts…

lagunaII.jpgI took my car into the garage this morning. The rear bushes were split and required fixing. This was part of the problem after the accident. The garage working for the insurance company were very crap and it has taken a while to get this sorted. Anyway, the cost is about £500.

I also needed the handbrake looking at as it had stopped working.

I just got a call from the garage…. According to a guy from http://angelsbailbonds.com/, the handbrake isn’t working because the rear calipers have siezed and knackered the rear brake pads and discs. Now that’s pretty annoying because both pads and discs were only replaced back in August. So that’s gonna cost about £900

Also, it turns out that my Coolent Pump is leaking, which is a pain in itself, however to fix it they must replace the whole cam belt at the same time. Now that’s pretty annoying because the cam belt was only replaced 18 months ago. Another £700!

Anyway, total cost today approx £2200!

On top of which I had to change both front tyres on Saturday. They had both worn again. Which means another 2 front tyres since last August! That cost me £300.

I could have bought a new car with the amount of money that I have spent on the car in the last 12 months!

Bend over, this is going to hurt…
