Now that I find myself in the position of looking for a new contract, I am forced to remember one of the things I despised about contracting: dealing with the agencies who phone up with a potential contract, but all they are actually after is your references. The reason they need your reference is not to check your suitability for the job that they haven’t put you forward for, but to have a contact in the company that you are leaving or have worked for before, so that they can try and get work from them…

Tickets went on sale for Kylie’s 2008 tour on Monday, well, actually they went on presale on Saturday. I think presale means O2 customers for “The O2″. I know that ticketmaster will be selling tickets at 9am Monday morning so I gear myself up to be ready to hit the internet at 9am. There is no obvious phone number on the site so online booking it is.

Due to numerous problems, I get to work at 9:10am. Ticket Master are not showing tickets available for the Saturday and Sunday shows. Two new shows have been added; Tuesday and Wednesday, but there are no good seats availalble. If you have been to The O2 you will know that the tiers are steep and being at the top of tier 4 might be a bit much! I don’t like the idea of crap seats mid week.

I look around online and find tickets for sale at 4 times face value for crap seats. I’m not lining the pockets of some other leaches just to get crap seats. I’d quite happily pay £200 a ticket direct to the artist and promoter – but not to wankers who have snaffled all the seats up and then trying to make a fast back. It’s almost enough to make you leave behind your capitalist roots and become solcialist.

Later on in the day I find out that there is another main promoter and I manage to buy 4 tickets for the Sunday night for pay face value. The tickets are at the back on level 4 – which may mean really at the back, you know, up there in the clouds, sitting with the gods, watching the ants dancing on the main floor. ( btw: I also found a phone number for ticket master! )

I’m a little annoyed and dissapointed… would I have got better tickets had I been at my desk at 9am or were they all sold out during the presale stage anyway? But, I got the tickets for the Sunday, so I only have to take one unpaid day off work rather than the two that a mid week would have required. And I wanted to see Kylie in concert and didn’t expect to get as good as view as when we went to see Prince…

Today I found out that yesterday, they added a Friday to the schedule. These went on sale yesterday afternoon and now only have crap seats left! Had I known that I would have waited… actually had I known that I would have bought 4 new tickets for the friday and sold my sunday tickets at face value! If another weekend night appears on the schedule, I am going to be real mad!

Why is the process of obtaining concert tickets such a pain in the arse? There has to be a better way!

I’m going to start this <del datetime="2007-07-05T08:26:28+00:00">post</del> rant with some disclosure. I am not a smoker and have not smoked since I was about 13. And even then it was due to peer pressure as opposed to anything else. I never liked smoking and never saw the point of it.

Now to the issue at hand:
I understand why we must protect non-smokers from passive smoking and indeed the all round general discomfort of being around smoke; it is therefore a good thing that the recent legislation came into play that stops people smoking in built up public places. I hate it when I come home from a night out and my clothes need to be burned and I have to take an hour long shower to clense myself.
I don’t however understand the level of intollerance that is directed at smokers by non-smokers. It’s social prejudice of the worse kind and makes me sick to the stomach. Why can’t smokers excercise their right to smoke and have somewhere to do it? Why can a company not have a smoking room so that smokers don’t feel like social outcasts when they have to leave the office and find somewhere outside that they can smoke? Why can a resteraunt not provide somewhere for people to smoke? Before you start to give me the issue of not being able to stop where smoke goes and who it affects… stop… think… why not? Why can we not filter places?Surely we have the ability if not the will, to devise solutions to allow people to smoke without affecting people who don’t smoke.

As always, shouldn’t we balance the measures that we bring in? Shouldn’t we protect a persons right not to be affected by smoke but also protect a persons right to smoke? When will it end? the current legislation is still not good enough, if anything it could be worse. I will probably walk past more groups of people smoking on the street than I would have before; that would expose me to more smoke that prior to the new legislation. That can’t be a good thing can it?

So we will then change the rules to stop people smoking in the street… what then? Once we have removed people’s right to smoke then we MUST, we have a duty, to stop alcohol drinking and excessive eating; both have health issues and put a strain on the NHS. Both are socially un-acceptable.

This morning he was interviewing Andy Duncan, the Chief Exec of Channel4, and to me Humphrys just came across as an out of touch pratt. It seems he doesn’t like most of what Channel4 shows, and thus it must be bad TV that lowers the tone of broadcasting.

I must make sure I turn off the radio whenever he’s on.

I really enyoyed Oceans Eleven, I thought it was a well made remake despite George Clooney being involved. So despite most sequels not matching their previous film in quality, I thought it would at least be worth a watch… I can’t believe I could have been so wrong.

I can’t even be bothered to describe the many things that are wrong with this film, all I want to say is… Never… never… never… watch Oceans Twelve it is a complete pile of arse paper.

What I really can’t believe is; they are making another film… Ocean’s Thirteen!!!!

Victoria and I go swimming on a Thursday night, and last night I finally let the frustration of evening swimming sessions get to me. So here is my rant about people swimming…

If you are at a public swimming session, then you are probably not an Olympic swimmer so, those trendy, flat, tinted goggles make you look like a t**t.

Choose your swimwear carefully, those tight shorts or long waist line speedos, make you look like a t**t.

Strong “power” swimmers who will not got in the “fast lane”, annoy me.

People who swim head down, front crawl, and expect you to get out of their way because they can’t see you, annoy me.

People who swim on their backs in crowded lanes, see point 4.

People who spend most of the session talking at the end of the lanes, annoy me.

People who spit in the pool, you are a t**t.

Do you really need to have a bottle of power juice at the end of the lane?

Attractive women who wear small bikinis, you are very distracting, but worthwhile being there…

Sales people, annoy me.

I was doing some site stats checking with Google and found a link to my site from the blog Venusberg. The archive link is from 2001.

Now Dan Griffiths, I think that’s his name, seems a intelligent enough chap, his blog in general is interesting enough to read, but I found it odd that he should choose to take a pop at me…

…but has still found time to write an unbelievable amount of terrible poetry and spawn a wain. Which means he must have had sex at least once. Well, probably, anyway.

Now, I’m not going to argue with his comment, there is indeed a large amount of terrible poetry on my site, I did after all write it in my mid to late teens, and I’m not particularly educated in the ways of literay rules and styles. Not to mention the fact that I am crap at English Language; but I still found it odd that he should randomly use me as his jibe of the day.

I can only presume he found the site because of Lords of Midnight and decided I was cheap content for his blog. It seems it was/is his MO as ParallaxView states…

Dan Venusberg is normally a man seemingly content to fritter away his intellect making cheap digs at minor bloggers,

Although I wasn’t actually blogging back then…

The upshot of all this is that it actually pissed me off! Now I’m not a man prone to sensitiveness and self esteem issues, but I actually considered removing stuff from my website! What is all that about?

So Dan, Happy New Year and thanks.
