{"id":229,"date":"2006-02-16T11:24:07","date_gmt":"2006-02-16T11:24:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.icemark.com\/blog\/archives\/2006\/02\/16\/brit-awards-the-albums\/"},"modified":"2006-02-18T21:09:15","modified_gmt":"2006-02-18T21:09:15","slug":"brit-awards-the-albums","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.icemark.com\/blog\/archives\/2006\/02\/16\/brit-awards-the-albums\/","title":{"rendered":"Brit Awards &#8211; the Albums"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well as <a target=\"_blank\" alt=\"The Brits Awards\" title=\"The Brits Awards\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The%20Brits%20Awards\" rel=\"tag\">The Brits Awards<\/a> was last night, now seems a good oppotunity to look at some of those <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icemark.com\/blog\/archives\/2006\/01\/19\/new-albums\/\" target=\"_blank\">new albums<\/a> I got for Christmas and my Birthday.<\/p>\n<p>British Album<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Coldplay<\/strong> <em>X &#038; Y<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Gorillaz<\/strong> <em>Demon Days<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>James Blunt<\/strong> <em>Back To Bedlam<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Kaiser Chiefs<\/strong> <em>Employment<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Kate Bush<\/strong> <em>Aerial<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" alt=\"Coldplay\" title=\"Coldplay\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Coldplay\" rel=\"tag\">Coldplay<\/a>, <a target=\"_blank\" alt=\"Kaiser Chiefs\" title=\"Kaiser Chiefs\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kaiser%20Chiefs\" rel=\"tag\">Kaiser Chiefs<\/a>, and <a target=\"_blank\" alt=\"Kate Bush\" title=\"Kate Bush\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kate%20Bush\" rel=\"tag\">Kate Bush<\/a> were on my list of new albums.<\/p>\n<p>I would have chosen between Kate Bush and Coldplay, so the fact that <strong>Coldplay<\/strong> won is not a problem.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" id=\"image197\" alt=\"Coldplay - X &#038; Y\" src=\"http:\/\/www.icemark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/01\/album7.jpg\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B0006L16N8\/\" target=\"_blank\">Coldplay &#8211; X&#038;Y<\/a>, I didn&#8217;t think I was going to like X&#038;Y, because I didn&#8217;t like the Single &#8216;Fix you&#8217;. Victoria was going to buy the album for me, so I thought; what the heck, and bought it. I really really like it! It&#8217;s worthy of all the praise handed to it.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" id=\"image200\" alt=\"Kate Bush - Aerial\" src=\"http:\/\/www.icemark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/01\/album10.jpg\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B000BEPLUE\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kate Bush &#8211; \u00a0Aerial<\/a>, is also fantastic. Typical oddness beautifully done. I read the lyrics before listening, and thought it was going to be crap. How can you have a song about &#8216;PI&#8217; where the number is recited throughout it? Or singing about washing machines &#8216;Mrs Bartolozzi&#8217;? But the album is Kate Bush at her best, just wonderfully done. There are two discs\u00a0for the album. The first seems a more random arrangement of songs, whereas the second seems to be put together with some relationship. That said &#8216;A Coral Room&#8217; on CD1 is just gorgeous.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" id=\"image193\" alt=\"Kaiser Chiefs - Employment\" src=\"http:\/\/www.icemark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/01\/album3.jpg\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B0007MVY2O\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kaiser Chiefs &#8211; Employment<\/a>, on the other hand is pants. It does have some great songs on it, ie: all the ones that have been released as singles so far. &#8216;Everyday I Love You Less and Less&#8217;, &#8216;I Predict\u00a0 A Riot&#8217;, &#8216;Oh My God&#8217;, and &#8216;Na Na Na Na Naa&#8217;&#8230; but that&#8217;s it, all the rest are dull dull dull&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>BRITISH FEMALE SOLO<\/p>\n<li><strong>Charlotte Church<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Kate Bush<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Katie Melua<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>KT Tunstall<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Natasha Bedingfield<\/strong><\/li>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" id=\"image191\" alt=\"KT Tunstall - Eye to the Telescope\" src=\"http:\/\/www.icemark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/01\/album1.jpg\" \/><a target=\"_blank\" alt=\"KT Tunstall\" title=\"KT Tunstall\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/KT%20Tunstall\" rel=\"tag\">KT Tunstall<\/a>\u00a0took this one, which from the nominees I won&#8217;t argue with.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B0007A0GD4\/\" target=\"_blank\">KT Tunstall &#8211; Eye to the Telescope<\/a>. Love this. Fantastic album. Not a bad track on it. She at times reminds me of other artists, but hell there is no crime in that. Well put together album.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" id=\"image199\" alt=\"Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams\" src=\"http:\/\/www.icemark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/01\/album9.jpg\" \/><a target=\"_blank\" alt=\"Jack Johnson\" title=\"Jack Johnson\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jack%20Johnson\" rel=\"tag\">Jack Johnson<\/a> took <strong><em>International break Through Artist<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B0007OC71O\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jack Johnson &#8211; \u00a0In Between Dreams<\/a>, loved this as well. Again, not a bad track on it. Reminds me a little of <a target=\"_blank\" alt=\"John Martyn\" title=\"John Martyn\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John%20Martyn\" rel=\"tag\">John Martyn<\/a>, but that is no bad thing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" id=\"image201\" alt=\"Madonna - Confessions on a dance floor\" src=\"http:\/\/www.icemark.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/01\/album11.jpg\" \/><a target=\"_blank\" alt=\"Madonna\" title=\"Madonna\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Madonna\" rel=\"tag\">Madonna<\/a> picked up <strong><em>International Femal Solo Artist<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B000B8QEZG\/\" target=\"_blank\">Madonna &#8211; Confessions on a Dance Floor<\/a>, I thought I was going to hate this one. When it was first released I listened to some of the tracks on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icemark.com\/blog\/wp-admin\/www.msn.co.uk\/music\/downloads\" target=\"_blank\">MSN Music<\/a>\u00a0and didn&#8217;t take to it at all. So I was going to give it a miss, but Victoria gave it to me. I love it!
