Bonfire Night

fireworks.jpgWe were out for a Fireworks party on Saturday night at our friends Darren, Gail, and their little girl Ellie. A good time was had by all… kids stayed up till late which meant we paid for it on Sunday. As usual Gail put on good food and there was plenty of booze to go around. Fantastic display of fireworks, although we want 3 out of 3 Catharine Wheels next time Darren! I think there were only a couple of stray rockets and I don’t recall any falling back on us like they did last year! πŸ™‚

Victoria supplied the pre-requisite Parkin and , for which we take much ridicule from our southern friends, however no Bonfire night is complete without them. Next year I think we will need to add Potato Pie and some we’ll be sorted! πŸ™‚

Time

When I joined IBM I figured that I would get more time to spend with my family and work on the numerous projects that I have on the go. One of the problems that I have with my self is that I take on way too much as my brain is always thinking about new things; if only I could keep myself focused and have less ideas!

My first instinct was to kill off a few projects, or at least put them on a back burner, and then concentrate on the ones that I wanted to get out the door first. So DDR move to the front, and indeed I have managed to make great strides forward on it even if it isn’t where I wanted it to be. I also manage to get quite a bit done on one of my Novels. However, as time has moved on, things have started to slide.

I went through a phase of really busy IBM. That is to be expected as it will no doubt fluctuate over time, that is after all, the nature of the work. The difference being that with your own company, you have less fluctuation and more constant. At the same time I was working on “Alan Hansens FAPL Super Quiz” – an iDVD game. I was working on that in the evenings for Smoking Gun and SmartlyHeated. You can imagine that I didn’t have a great amount of time left for anything else.

I am in the process of creating a new blog, more info on that later.

I have started up a new company to exploit some all technology and concepts that I worked on many years ago. More info on that later as well.

After a chance conversation with Rob a few days ago, I have revisited another old website idea that is just right for the time. Guess what… yes you’re right… more info on that later! πŸ™‚

I’m now starting to doubt if the Novel idea that I am currently working on, is the right way forward, and perhaps I should go back to idea number (..insert no here..) .

So, where is all the time going…?

Day 3!

BT Home HubGot home last night and opened the Home Hub box… well it’s cheap, but kind of classy! I thought about it for a while before finally cracking and deciding to install it. My reason for the U-Turn was that I figured that installing the BT supplied router might kickstart the incrementing of my IP profile.       Continue reading “BT Home Hub”

Day 2!

I spent a little time on the phone to an Indian call centre last night… BT’s official speed test site shows that my line is indeed 7.5mb but that my IP profile is currently 2mb… I fugure the IP profile is too low and needs upping… anyhow the guy from the call centre explained that it takes 10 days for the line to settle and for your profile to get set correctly. Personally I’m a little suspect and expect to go back to them in 10 days saying that the speed is no better.

A little searching online suggests that the 10 day thing is probably correct! πŸ™‚ However, general opinion seems to be against the Home Hub. I did pick it up this morning from the Post Office, however, I’m not so sure that I will install it. I think I’ll stick with my netgear or get a newer version of the netgear etc…
