Do Firefox browser bugs matter?

BBC NEWS | Technology | Do Firefox browser bugs matter?

I’m not a fan of Bill Thompson, generally I find that he is someone who has managed to forge a living telling less technologically able people something about technology, in a dreary and annoying way. He is however a better journalist than I…

In this article he talks about whether bugs in open source software are really a problem, because of the open source nature of the software. Now most of what he talks about is utter drivel (sorry Bill) but he does start with and interesting point which I would hope is at least well researched, and that is:

The Firefox open source browser is full of bugs, some of which are rather serious

And then concludes about that:

Since one of the main reasons people give for moving to Firefox from Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) is that IE is full of bugs and vulnerable to attack, this might seem to show that it does not matter which browser you use, since you are still going to be in trouble.

Which is generally one of the few things that I think I agree with him on…
