Mary Poppins

While in London we went to watch the Musical Mary Poppins at the Prince Edward Theatre. I was on the whole dissapointed. Disney’s version of is practically perfect in every way… the theatre musical version, uses most of the Disney material but then I think it attempts to head back to the original books by . The result is a mess. The non-disney material jarrs terribly with the good stuff. I must say that the sets are fantastic, the whole way the house is assembled, the way the upstairs bedroom comes down from the ceiling as does the roof… but the acting seemed more than theatre. Everything was too overly exagerated.

All the “main” set pieces work well and have a good amount of toe stomping fun about them, I just think they should have stuck to the original plot and cut the show down by an hour rather than try to add in unnesessary and poor material.

Fifteen

As part of our extended Wedding Anniversary celebrations, my parents had so kindly given us the money to treat ourselves to a weekend away. As we had gone camping last weekend we had decided to hit london this weekend; so we booked a table at ’s Fifteen Restaurant for the Friday night and stayed at the Hotel Russell.

We ate in the Trattoria part of the restaurant which was lovely. The food was gorgeous and the service excellent. We started with some Antipasti and the I had “Tagliatelle with zucchini, pancetta, chilli, garlic, mascarpone, thyme and parmigiano” while Victoria had “The lightest potato gnocchi with Isle of Wight tomatoes, fresh basil, buffalo mozzarella and parmigiano”… both were stunning!

For main Victoria had “Fillet of wild sea trout with marinated zucchini, Sicilian cherry tomatoes, lemon crème fraiche and samphire” and I had “Seared Calves Liver…”. Both were again stunning. The Liver was so delicate and just melted in the mouth.

The whole evening was just lovely.

Rhinefield House

On our way back from camping on the 2nd, Victoria, the kids, and I dropped into Rhinefield House, in the which is where we got married. We just sat outside and had afternoon tea while soaking in the weather and the ambience. It was strange because there was a wedding going on and it made me think that the happy couple would share an anniversary with us and their wedding location. It was a lovely place to be with the children on our special day.

Camping

It was Victoria and mine 10th Wedding Anniversary on the 2nd July, so we went camping… Originally we were going to revisit the hotel that we had out honeymoon at; La Source in , however my current Job and Financial situation stopped that, not to mention putting paid to the hotel!

The next option was to go away for the weekend, which my parents had offered us. They were going to come down and look after the kids while we went to London or somesuch. However, the idea of camping came up amongst our friends and in the end we said “why not?”

So on Friday 30th June we headed down the Holmsley on the south edge of the with 4 other families; 10 Adults and 10 children.

We had a fantastic time. We set the tents up in a circle all facing each other, with Gazebo’s in the centre covering the tables. We had our own little community sprung up for the weekend.

The camp site is not the best, but it has plenty of room and flat space for the kids; they were able to all go and ride their bikes around without any problems. It used to be and old airfield and many of the turning circles and things are still in place and are used for roads etc…

Saturday caused a problem; the match! England vs Portugal… what were we to do? Anyway, the blokes headed off to find a local pub that were showing the match and the women stayed behind the man the fort and prepare the barbeque for later! We watched the match through the windows and doors of a pub that was too hot and full to stay inside of, but actually we had a great position and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves despite the result.

When we got back to the site, the girls had decorated the camping area with balloons, anniversary bunting, “just married” signs, and pictures drawn by all the children. In the background their was music that we had used for our wedding; and . It was fantastic. We had a wonderful night and a wonderful weekend.

It was bloody hot though!

Boilers…

My boiler hasn’t been working for the last 2 months. First it seemed like the pump had gone, so I spent £90 on Labour and £120 on a new pump… since then the boiler still hasn’t worked. It’s had 3 new pumps (which I haven’t paid for), and a number of new sensors. It would run for a while and then stop, usually next morning, from that point on it would refuse to fire up.
Brian, the boiler man has tried his hardest but to no avail. Finally today SIME, the boiler manufacturer came up with the answer; the boiler was wired up wrong when it was installed 2 years ago! The problem appears to be that there should be a connection between the control unit and the boiler that affectively keeps the boiler constantly live, in standby state if you like. This wire, among others, is missing and thus when the boiler needs to power down it just cuts off rather than going into standby. The affect is that the boiler is being turned on/off many many times a day. This has burnt out the motherboard ( don’t let anyone tell you that standby buttons are bad because they use too much power ) and this now needs replacing along with the new wiring… so it looks like another £250 to get it fixed!
